The biggest jump in GDP in seven quarters. The 16th trade surplus in 18 months. Data showing a surge in corporate bond issuance. The good news just kept coming. But so did the doubts about whether this growth was sustainable. “Growth is nice, but can we keep it going,” asked The Australian Financial Review’s editorial this week. That type of analysis is no surprise to fund manager Dion Hershan, the head of Australian equities at Yarra Capital Management. “There is a crisis of confidence, but not a crisis of fundamentals,” he says. “The economy is in the best condition it has been in for 10 years.”
